Voluntary Experience
If you are a keen horse person, you may be interested in helping
with horses in the Caribbean. You will be fully aware of the tasks
entailed in having your own horse(s). Dealing with horses is a
specialised field and it is not for every one. We have found it
difficult to find interested people in Tobago to come and help us,
purely for one reason and that is, that there really are very few
horses on the island so the islanders have just had no exposure to
horses throughout there lives.
Do you want to gain experience with horses in the Caribbean?
You will be expected to help for approximately 40 hours a week and in return you will be given accommodation and food.
Helping around horses can be physically demanding. You will be expected to do basic chores, such as: mucking out the stables, collecting wood shavings for bedding, cleaning out water baths, cleaning and oiling of saddles and tack, grooming and bathing the horses, tacking the horses (preparation for a trek), etc.
Friendship Stables are always looking for young and enthusiastic people. It is not a necessary requirement to have had a lot of previous experience with horses, but it is important that you have a love for animals and a willingness to have direct contact with our horses as they are large and can be intimidating.
You are welcome to contact us directly if you are interested in coming to volunteer with us. We do ask that interested people stay for a minimum of one month.
Drop us a line and let us know a little about yourself.
We look forward to hearing from you.
